Winner of the inaugural 2022 Mastersingers competition main prize & audience award, British bass, Simon Grange, graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2015, where he was a Cuthbert Smith Scholar supported by a Soirée d’Or award and Douglas & Hilda Simmonds and Hans & Mary Romney award. He was previously a student and choral scholar at Oxford University where he read English Literature.

Simon currently studies with singing teacher Matthew Best and is a member of the Opera North chorus. Recent engagements include Nourabad in Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers and Shepherd in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo both for Opera North, Gremin in Tchiakovsky’s Eugene Onegin for Opera North Youth Company and Reinmar in Wagner’s Tannhäuser for Saffron Opera Group. Other rôles and appearances have included Bluff in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirektor, at the Teatru Manoel in Malta, Leporello (Don Giovanni) for Clonter Opera and cover of Fafner (Siegfried) for Longborough Opera Festival, as well as Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Collatinus (The Rape of Lucretia) and Colline (La bohème).

Forthcoming engagements include Second armoured man in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for Opera North, Light performances and cover of Snug in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream also for Opera North.
