British soprano Ella de Jongh is a graduate of the prestigious Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she studied under the tutelage of Professor Janice Chapman and coach Michael Pugh.

Ella is excited to be singing with Longborough Festival Opera this summer in the chorus of La Bohème and covering the roles of Wellgunde and Third Norn in Wagner’s Ring Cycle.  Recent notable engagements include singing at the UK McDonalds Franchisee Gala Dinner in Lisbon with Four Impact Productions, Die Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier) for Saffron Opera Group, Gingerbread Witch in Opera Holland Park’s Young Artist production of Hänsel und Gretel and Contessa for Spira Mirabilis in their production of Le nozze di Figaro in Tuscany.  Ella was also named as the reserve candidate for The Carole Rees Awards in the Mastersingers Vocal Competition in 2023.

Ella is delighted to have been part of British Youth Opera’s Serena Fenwick Programme for 2023 after returning for a third year to Garsington Opera and the Edinburgh International Festival as an Alvarez Young Artist for the 2022 season covering the rôle of Foreign Princess, singing in the chorus of Rusalka and covering the rôle of Miss Jessel in Louisa Muller’s award-winning revival of The Turn of the Screw.  Ella was hugely humbled and grateful to have been awarded the Garsington Opera Simon Sandbach Chorus Award in recognition of personal and professional contributions and musical skill during the 2022 season after she stepped up to perform the role of Foreign Princess (Rusalka) in July.  Other rôles include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Elizabeth I (Gloriana), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and Giorgetta (Il tabarro). 

Ella’s studies were generously supported by the Nicky Bird Scholarship, Haberdasher’s Opera Scholarship and the Mario Lanza Foundation.
