Paul Sheehan graduated in music from Exeter University and was a choral scholar in Exeter Cathedral Choir, before going on to train at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and now studies with Robert Dean. A member of the chorus at English National Opera, by whose kind permission he appears, he has also been fortunate to perform a variety of roles for the company including Antonio (The Marriage of Figaro), Jen Jensen/Quartet of the Defeated/Lumberjack (Paul Bunyan) for Wilton’s Music Hall and Alexandra Palace Theatre and Bogdanowitsch (The Merry Widow).
He also created rôles in two world premières at Eng;iash National Opera: Shepherd (Thebans) and Coroner (Jack the Ripper: The Women of Whitechapel), and most recently performed 2nd Yeoman/Citizen (The Yeomen of the Guard) – also broadcast on BBCTV – Ed (It’s a Wonderful Life), and Messenger (La traviata). Rôles elsewhere include Ceprano (Rigoletto) for Grange Park Opera, Peter (St Matthew Passion) for Glyndebourne Ferstival Opera, Don Alfonso (Così fan Tutte) for Glyndebourne on Tour, Swallow (Peter Grimes) for Kensington Symphony Orchestra and Henry Higgins (My Fair Lady). On the concert platform Paul has sung at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, St John’s Smith Square, St Martin in the Fields, Fairfield Halls and Exeter Cathedral in works ranging from Handel’s Messiah to Tippett’s A Child of Our Time. He is a founder member of the vocal group Trio Grande, and, together with Clare McCaldin and Stephen Dickinson, has devised and performed cabaret entertainments celebrating the music and lyrics of both Sondheim and Cole Porter for Thaxted Festival, Mayfield Festival and Cowbridge Festival. Paul’s future engagements include Benoît in English National Opera’s upcoming production of La bohème, further performances of the Cole Porter celebration Just One Of Those Things for the Swindon Recital Series and the Lichfield Festival and returning to the Thaxted Festival next summer with a new original programme exploring the American Songbook.
