Mezzo soprano Melanie Lodge studied at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and has received awards from both Sophie’s Silver Lining Fund and the Britten-Pears foundation.

She recently made her Romanian debut performing Angel in The Dream of Gerontius with the Filarmonica Moldova Iaşi.  Melanie has worked with many British opera companies including English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera Holland Park, Scottish Opera and has also sung at Wexford Festival Opera.

Roles include the title role in Carmen, Leila (Iolanthe), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Roro (La Rondine), Giullia (The Gondoliers), La Zelatrice (Suor Angelica), Kate (The Pirates of Penzance) for Buxton G & S Opera company), Phoebe (The Yeomen of the Guard, Giannetta (The Elixir of Love), Third Flowermaiden (Parsifal), Mercedes (Carmen), Despina (Così fan Tutte), Daphne (Thespis), Iolanthe (Iolanthe) for Carl Rosa Opera Company, Pitti-Sing (The Mikado), Beggar Woman (Sweeney Todd), Olga (The Merry Widow), Alice (Le Comte Ory, Marthe Faust for Opera South and Modestina (Il Viaggio a Riems).

A keen interest in new works, Melanie has received critical acclaim for creating characters such as The Dowager (The Dowager’s Oyster) for Grimebourne Opera Festival, Mother (The Doll Behind the Curtain) for Tête à Tête, Elf (Jack Frost) at Saint John’s, Smith Square and Fasolt (For the Love of Undine).

Miss Lodge’s extensive concert repertoire includes Verdi’s Requiem, Bach’s St. John Passion, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Messiah, Elgar’s The Music Makers, Stainer’s Crucifixion and many more.

Future performances include a return to Opera Brava as Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Madame Bluff (The Impresario).  For Saffron Opera Group Melanie has previously sung Waltraute (Die Walküre) and covered Second Norn and Wellgunde (Götterdämmerung).
