  • Die Meistersinger – Balthasar Zorn
  • Der Rosenkavalier – An Animal Seller/von Faninal’s Major-Domo
  • Die Meistersinger – Walther von Stolzing

Jonathan Finney sang the rôle of Walther von Stolzing in Saffron Opera Group’s inaugural concert of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 2014. In addition to that event, Jonathan has performed in the last two decades all the major Wagner tenor-rôles [Lohengrin excepted] as well as singing principal rôles in operas by Richard Strauss, Janacek and Britten with, amongst others, Scottish Opera, Garsington Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, Fulham Opera and Saffron Opera Group.

Jonathan has mixed portfolio as a musician. In 2022 his opera, A Kind Man, received its stage première. Dame Susan Hill, author of the novel on which it is based, wrote in The Spectator that the opera “works wonderfully in a way that I could never have envisioned”.  Reviewed in Seen & Heard, A Kind Man was described as having “…the potential to be a keeper…This lovely piece deserves wider exposure.”

In 2023 Jonathan’s orchestration of Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, for full symphony orchestra received its London première at St John’s, Waterloo. This was a change of direction for him, as Jonathan also has a portfolio of arrangements of operas that he has reorchestrated for smaller ensembles, for instance Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Der fliegende Holländer, Hansel und Gretel, Le nozze di Figaro and Oedipus Rex.

Jonathan is also co-musical director of New Palace Opera with Michael Thorne.
