Tenor, Alex Aldren worked as a doctor at The Royal London Hospital, before joining the Royal Academy of Music Opera School in 2016.

After graduating in 2019, Alex immediately went on to work for Garsington Opera Festival, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Hampstead Garden Opera, Opera de Baugé, as well as reaching the finals of the Maureen Lehane, Emmy Destin & International Claremont-Ferrand competitions.

With the outbreak of Covid, Alex returned to work as a doctor in A&E departments around London. While working a shift he was filmed by a colleague singing Nessun Dorma, the video of which received millions of views on Twitter and YouTube. Subsequently Alex was interviewed on TV and radio programmes as far as the US, Australia and South Korea.

More recently Alex has performed Satyavan in Savitri by Holst, and Ahasveros in the UK première of Lidarti’s Esther for Hampstead Garden Opera, and Ein Wird in Garsington Opera’s production of Der Rosenkavalier.

In October Alex performed scenes from BohèmeRondineWest Side Story and Rossini’s Un Viaggio a Reims with Maestro Kamal Khan and director, Hugo de Ana, for iSing Festival in Chengdu, China.

In April, Alex joined Brundibár festival in Brussels to perform the world première of Fragments of a diary, a piece about a Jewish wunderkind pianist who died escaping the Warsaw ghetto in 1943, by Ukranian composer Volodymyr Runchak.

Earlier this year, Alex completed an audition tour of Germany, and has since been signed by several German agents, making his debut there this summer, as the Conte Almavivia in Rossini’s Barber of Seville for Gut Immling Festival.

Including Almaviva, Alex made four major rôle débuts this year with Ruggero in Puccini’s La Rondine for Midsummer Opera, Rodolfo in La Bohème for Aylesbury Opera and now David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg for Saffron Opera Group.

In August Alex also jumped in for the rôle of Alfredo in La Traviata for Opera in Oborne Festival, and in December, he will help to create a new role as Hugo in Link in my Bio for Théâtre de Luxembourg.

Upcoming projects include: tenor soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with Birmingham University (Elgar Concert Hall, 1st December) Hugo in the world première of Link in My Bio for Théâtre de Luxembourg (7th & 8th December). tenor soloist with ‘Celebrate Voice’ festival in Salisbury (12th – 14th December).
