Born in London, Charne Rochford is gaining a reputation as one of Britain’s most prominent young dramatic tenors.
On the concert platform he has performed with most of the major British orchestras including: The Halle, The Philharmonia, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Last season he made his debut with the BBC Concert Orchestra on ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ broadcast on Radio 3, and subsequently with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, singing the role of ‘Marc’ in the European premiere of Huang Ruo’s M. Butterfly at the Barbican. He was also the soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No 9 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall.
On the operatic stage he is becoming increasingly associated with the works of Wagner. Last year saw him make his debut as Siegfried (Siegfried and Götterdämerung) at Longborough Festival Opera, Tristan (Tristan und Isolde) with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra and Walter (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) with Saffron Opera Group. Later this season he will sing the title role in Tannhäuser in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Other highlights include: Verdi’s Requiem with Orchestre Symphonique Genevois at Victoria Hall, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde at Opera Holland Park with Fifth Door Ensemble, Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot for Festival Opera, New Zealand. In the autumn he will make his house debut at Wexford Opera in the title role of Zemlinsky’s The Dwarf.
He made his cinematic debut in 2005 at the Venice Film Festival as Second Officer in Die Zauberflöte directed by Kenneth Branagh and conducted by James Conlon.
In 2014 he was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM).
