Simon Thorpe studied at the Guildhall School of Music and the National Opera Studio and his teacher is Robert Dean.
He has sung at the Sydney Opera House, The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London and in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain. He also works with English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North and Scottish Opera and many other quality, smaller opera companies. As a Heldenbaritone his operatic repertoire includes Puccini: Scarpia (Tosca), Michele (Il tabarro), Jack Rance (La Fanciulla del West), Verdi: the title roles in Rigoletto and Falstaff and Anckarström (Un ballo in maschera) and Wagner; Wotan (Das Rheingold, Die Walküre) and Der Wanderer (Siegfried), Der Holländer (Der fliegende Holländer) and Telramund (Lohengrin).
He sings regularly in concert at major venues including the Barbican‚ Queen Elizabeth Hall‚ Royal Albert Hall and Bridgewater Hall. Particular highlights have included Carmina Burana with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Fauré’s Requiem with the Choir of King’s College‚ Cambridge‚ conducted by Nicholas Cleobury‚ Messiah with the Armonico Consort‚ Elijah at St David’s Hall‚ Cardiff and Mozart’s Requiem with the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Stanislaw Skrowacewski.
Current and future plans include the title role in Falstaff at West Green House, the Major-domo (Andrea Chénier) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Gunter (Götterdämmerung) with the London Opera Company and the cover of Baron Jaroslav Prus (The Makropulos Affair) again for the Royal Opera House.
