Welcome to the website of Saffron Opera Group, the opera company with the mission of making opera available to as wide an audience as possible, eliminating its elitist connotations and creating an atmosphere in which all participants are, and are made to feel, cherished.

The Covid-19 pandemic is taking its toll. We have reluctantly decided to postpone our performance of Tannhäuser until 11 September 2022. The principle reason for this is that, to proceed, we would have needed to seek commitment in March that our chorus members, of whom there are many, would all be prepared to start rehearsing on 23 June. This is a commitment which, unsurprisingly, we had no right to expect. We needed it then as we have soloists to consider and it would have been unfair to keep them engaged for another three months, possibly foregoing other opportunities, whilst the current uncertainty persists.

The effects of Covid on Saffron Hall have also prevented us from performing a smaller opera on 12 September. However, and in a departure from our usual fare, we will be performing Così fan tutte on 13 February 2022. So next year will see us producing two operas.

If you already have Tannhäuser tickets, you will be able to use them for the 11 September 2022 performance. Tickets for Così fan tutte will be available as usual via Saffron Hall and, if you are one of our Wagner stalwarts, we sincerely hope that you will come and see what we can do with Mozart.
